Thanks to Melissa our bedrooms and study are now looking organised for the first time since we moved in six months ago! Melissa is efficient, makes great recommendations and knows how to make clever use of small spaces, and where before I felt like we didn’t have enough storage, we now have a whole empty cupboard. We will definitely be having her back for “round 2” to work on the rest of the house!

Top Housekeepers related questions

A housekeeper can be responsible for a range of household tasks, from cleaning and organising, to laundry and cooking.
A housekeeper should be competent in completing basic household chores to a high standard. They should have meticulous attention to detail and be able to follow instructions.
Yes. Some household tasks may require trade specialists - this is generally beyond the skills of a housekeeper. Most housekeepers also focus on areas inside the home - not outside/garden maintenance.

Some people have a daily housekeeper, others get help in once a week, once a month, or just on special occasions to help them get caught up.

Housekeeping agencies are popular, but they don’t offer as much flexibility and control. Hiring a housekeeper directly means you can choose your preferred housekeeper, based on ratings, reviews, and skillsets.

The cost of housekeeping depends mainly on how many hours you’d like your housekeeper to work. On Airtasker, people typically spend $60-$150 on housekeeping services.

What does a housekeeping service include?

Housekeeping services can include one-off services or regular domestic tasks (daily, weekly, or fortnightly), from cleaning and cooking to even home maintenance. Your housekeeper will bring along all the products and equipment they need to clean and maintain your home - all you need to do is tell them what you need done. Here’s how they can help:

Cleaning

The most common housekeeping service involves cleaning. This could include general cleaning, like vacuumingmoppingdusting, and bathroom cleaning. Or it might include detail cleaning tasks like couchcurtainfloorfridge, and rug cleaning. Depending on the number of tasks you’d like your housekeeper to complete, they may clean for just an hour, or up to the entire day. Your housekeeper will discuss a time that’s convenient for you, the tasks you need done, and the timeframe it should take to complete these tasks. If needed, they can bring their own cleaning supplies, like a vacuum cleaner and feather duster.

Organising and tidying

Many housekeepers offer professional organising services, where they help organise and tidy all areas of your home. This includes desks, filing cabinets, stationery, linen, wardrobes, toys, kitchen cupboards, garage interiors, and more. They’ll pull out all the items, organise them by category, and help you choose what you should keep, donate, or bin. They’ll also help by recommending suitable storage solutions to help you keep your home tidy for longer.

Cooking

Some housekeepers are available to help with cooking in your home. They might prepare a few snacks, or help prep several meals ahead of time so you don’t have to worry about cooking. Your housekeeper will present menu and recipe options for you to choose from and use your ingredient and kitchen supplies to cook everything in your kitchen. Once they’re done, they’ll store the freshly cooked food (with heating instructions) and clean up any mess.

Laundry

Washing and ironing starting to pile up? Housekeepers can help by putting on loads of washing, hanging clothes, loading the dryer, folding washing, ironing, and even putting it away. They’ll check the care labels to ensure appropriate washing/drying methods are used before they start the process. With some extra help, you’ll be all caught up on the laundry in no time.

Home maintenance

Many housekeepers are skilled in basic household maintenance tasks. But if they’re unable to do the job themselves, they’ll help organise and oversee skilled contractors who can help do repairs and maintenance in and around your home.

HOUSE DECLUTTER AND CLEAN - NOT A REGULAR CLEAN READ DESCRIPTION

$300

Diamond Creek VIC, Australia

20th May 2024

Urgent request for a one-time deep clean of my home on Monday 27th of May or Tuesday 28th of May. Due to overwhelming circumstances, my house has become extremely messy. I am a parent of two energetic toddlers who, as you can imagine, leave a trail of toys, books, crackers and various items scattered throughout the house on a daily basis. The mess and clutter have snowballed to a point where it's become too overwhelming for me to manage. Hence, I am seeking professional assistance to restore order and cleanliness to my home. I am aware that this is not a typical cleaning job. Therefore, I am looking for a team of 2-3 individuals who can commit approximately 3hours to thoroughly tackle different areas of the house. Here's an overview of the tasks that need to be addressed: Living Room/Toddler Toy Area: Organising toddler toys and books. Cleaning/pulling toys/misc items from under couch. Dining Area: Sorting and organising miscellaneous items on the dining table. Sorting and putting away clothes. Detail wiping down of high chairs. Kitchen: Decluttering bench. Disposing of expired food items in pantry and organising pantry. Deep clean of microwave. Decluttering the cupboard. Bathroom: Cleaning of bath, shower and vanity unit. Also cleaning of toilet. Floors: Vacuuming and mopping floors in common areas, bathroom, toilet and laundry. Floors haven’t been cleaned for quite some time and have become grimy. It's important to emphasise that this is a one-time deep clean, and the scope of work requires multiple individuals for a few hours to effectively address the accumulated mess. Type of clean: Regular Number of bedrooms: 3 Number of bathrooms: 1 Equipment and supplies: Tasker must provide

Deep clean of bedroom

$100

Ashfield NSW, Australia

14th May 2024

I’m a bit embarrassed by the state of my room and I just need someone to come and deep clean it, cupboards and all. There’s a lot of stuff just everywhere and I need help with it as it brings anxiety. This clean is specific to only my bedroom and perhaps helping to sort clothes into piles for washing. NOTE: I don’t need washing done, just help sorting it into piles as I can do this myself once it is sorted. The second photo is the pile of clothes which is in my living room. I don’t have a vacuum cleaner as it is broken and my floor is carpeted so no mop is required. (Reposting from last week with a time and date change) Type of clean: Regular Number of bedrooms: 1 Number of bathrooms: None Equipment and supplies: Tasker must provide

Lara and her partner were quick and efficient in cleaning my bedroom and moving things to the living room. Very satisfied and would recommend for cleaning tasks. They also arrived on time.

‘Emergency’ tidying and organising one off

$5

Fitzroy VIC 3065, Australia

13th May 2024

Hi Aisha, I have ADHD, three children, and lots of ‘projects’. All of this has been manageable until the past three weeks. An unplanned major plumbing issue (outside) meant that I spent a few weeks managing a huge emergency dig up of our courtyard space, then repaving, cleaning etc. and THEN it has had to be all dug up again. During this time regular tasks piled up, things were placed wherever they could be, and clean clothes became a floordrobe from hell. I have also had four debilitating migraines during ten days (currently in bed with one) which has not happened before either! Usually one and I lose two days max. The situation now is that one room is covered in (clean) pieces of fabric and clothing that form the basis of the sewing projects I was starting before the plumbing disaster. The tool cupboard, recently organised and labeled clearly by me, has been raided and shoved back too many times so it’s chaos and there are tools and bits and bobs all over the house. There are piles of objects I was fixing or grouping for sale and donation, as well as empty bags and tubs. I keep ‘shoving’ it in cupboards and closing the door and then need to pull it all out to get the ‘one’ thing someone needs in a hurry! It’s all clean, and I don’t have hoarding issues, in fact I’m very keen to get rid of things and organise everything into its logical place, BUT it’s now so tangled together that without extra person-power and uninterrupted hours (my kids are 3,5, and 11 and each need the usual shopping, cooking, care, attention, clean clothes and school pickups etc as a minimum) that I need help! I’ve lost ten days of life to migraine and am barely scraping through. So I really want to hire someone/two people to come in and simply group like-with-like, rehang or fold my own clothing, and give me a head start! I have lots of tubs and those big ikea bags that we can mark with masking tape ( ‘boots’, ‘kid art’ etc) for me to go through and find logical homes for later or in a separate piece of work, but for now, it’s just to please ‘tidy, group, and fold/hang’. Is this something you’ve did me before? It looks like my house has been ransacked because it has! Repeatedly! And it’s gotten away from me. My husband works from home and is desperate for tidy but has no hours to commit to it between work and care of our three kids while I’m sick. It’s a lovely house, and under normal circumstances I have had it showroom ready for Airbnb guests even, but it currently looks like an explosion of stuff and it’s overwhelming me. I can’t even get a cleaner to come in right now because everything needs to be picked up off the floor but if I do that and throw it all on a bed, it will be back to tangled right away. Hope to hear from you soon! Sorry this sounds confused I’m really in a lot of head pain. I have only put two pictures up because that’s all I can see from my bed and I can’t get out of it right now. But I will send more later if you can give me an indication of what is possible. Thanks in advance, Sarah

Amy is a star! Don’t think twice, book Amy! She came right away, and she was extremely kind, intelligent, efficient, and able to see what needed doing when I could barely talk. I had a huge mess, three kids, and a migraine that had lasted a week. Amy came in, got right to it in a calm and organised way, happy to work for as long as I needed to get things right again. Clever and capable, I would trust Amy with any variety of more important tasks.
